As we phase into reopening our visitor center, our hours are limited. Currently we are open Thursday, Friday & Saturday 10am – 4pm, and Sunday 12pm – 4pm.

  • Closed-toe shoes are recommended for all tour guests, as the tour takes you through our working distillery.

What To Expect

Kentucky Artisan Distillery offers a behind-the-scenes experience on every tour

On your tour you will experience a bourbon distillery as if you were a distiller yourself. KAD was built first as a distillery, and tours were added later. This means that every tour gets up close and personal to the actual equipment. You will not see anything from behind a glass window. You actually walk through our laboratory, where you can ask a distiller that question you’ve always wanted to know the answer to. Our guests get to interact with the people behind the brands that call KAD home; many of our tour guests get to meet our head distiller Jade Peterson, our owner Steve Thompson or even Trey Zoeller, the founder of Jefferson’s!

Frequently Asked Questions About The Tour

How long is the average tour?
Our tours typically take between 45 minutes to an hour.
How much does a tour cost?
Our regular tour (which includes a tasting) costs $12.00 per adult. All active military, veterans and first responders will receive a tour for $6.00. Children are free.
What will I see on the tour?
On your tour of KAD you will see the entire process of bourbon making. You will see our laboratory, malting room, milling area, distillery (where all the cookers, fermenters and stills are located), bottling room and tasting room. Please note that as we are a contract distillery, we may not always have bottling business at the time of your visit.
What will I taste on the tour?
The tasting portion of the KAD tour includes samples of brands that call KAD home. We rotate what products we taste on a daily basis. Please call the visitor center at 502-822-3042 for today’s tasting selections.
Can I bring my child with me on the tour?
Absolutely. There is no charge for a child. (obviously no tastings!)
Do I need to make a reservation for a tour?
As tour space is limited, we highly recommend reservations. They can be easily made by clicking on ‘Book your Tour’ above, or by calling us at 502-822-3042.
What should I wear when I take a tour of KAD?
We recommended that all tour guests wear closed-toe shoes, as the tour takes you through our working distillery. The distillery is very hot is the summer months, so plan accordingly.
What can I buy in the gift shop?
You can buy souvenirs that feature KAD, Jefferson’s, our other brands, and Kentucky bourbon in general. You can also purchase bottles. What bottles are available depends on the time of year and product release schedules. Please give us a call at 502-822-3042 if you would like to know what is currently available for sale in our retail shop.

Do the tours go outside?
All tours remain inside our building.
